When to visit

The UK tends to enjoy fairly fine summer months, cold, wet winters and fresh, sunny days in the autumn and spring. The British weather can be changeable so it’s always wise to carry an umbrella. The festive season is a magical time to visit and London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks rival some of the best in the world.

Experiences

England’s many dynamic cities, historical sites, national parks and windswept beaches attract visitors in their droves. London is the obvious beacon, alive with vibrant neighbourhoods and different cultures, ancient monuments rubbing shoulders with modern architectural wonders, and a sensational arts and entertainment scene. But look to Oxford, Manchester, Liverpool, Bath, or York for other unique epicentres of local culture. With stunning scenery and sophisticated cities, miles of untouched wilderness featuring ancient castles, deep lochs, towering mountains and remote islands, Scotland is the UK’s adventure capital. Wales has pretty countryside to spare, long coastal paths, castle adorned hills and valleys, sweeping sandy beaches and attractive resort towns. Families are spoilt for choice with theme parks such as LEGOLAND®, Alton Towers, Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures. Hogwarts fans shouldn’t miss London’s Harry Potter Studio Tour.

Areas of the United Kingdom

London: London is a city that has defined pomp and pageantry. It’s a capital steeped in tradition and history while also home to a wonderful kaleidoscope of nationalities that make it truly multicultural. Its colourful history and sense of heritage are evident everywhere from its fine architecture and manicured parks to its countless museums and galleries. London is always ready to invite you to participate in some of its famous traditions, whether it is the finesse of afternoon tea in a comfortable hotel lounge or watching the Changing of the Guard through the Buckingham Palace gates.

Manchester: Manchester is known as the original modern city, compact and easy to cover by foot. It is no secret that Manchester is football mad, being home to not only one, but two major football teams, Manchester City and Manchester United. For families The Trafford Centre would be an obvious highlight.

Glasgow: Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow is renowned for its culture, style and has a reputation for its live music scene and offers a blend of museums and galleries, vibrant nightlife, fantastic shopping and a diverse array of cafés and restaurants.

Edinburgh: Discover the beautiful city of Edinburgh listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll along the cobbled streets of the historical Royal Mile as you make your way to Edinburgh Castle which commands superb views of the city. Gladstone’s Land is a beautiful property often described as a hidden gem, lying in the Old Town.
