Introduction
In many ways, the landscapes of Kenya and Tanzania are the ‘classic’ African images we know from the big screen and glossy magazines; giraffes silhouetted against a lone acacia, the snowcapped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, the crimson cloaks of the Maasai warriors, and a mass of pink flamingos in the shallows of a waterhole.

Experiences
In Kenya and Tanzania, a safari is the big draw card. Nowhere else on Earth will you find such an abundance and diversity of wildlife within such easy reach. This is the home of the ‘Big Five’ game animals (elephants, lions, leopards, rhinoceros and buffalo), and between the months of July and early October you can witness the ‘great migration’ of wildebeest and zebras across the savannahs from Kenya’s Masai Mara to Tanzania’s Serengeti. Both countries enjoy an Indian Ocean coastline, meaning white sand palmfringed beaches to relax on. Off the coast of Tanzania is the fascinating ‘Spice Island’ of Zanzibar, where African and Arabic cultures converge, and its largely unspoiled neighbour, Pemba. Herds of elephants can be found in Tanzania’s huge Selous Game Reserve, Africa’s largest wildlife reserve, where you can also take a boat safari along the Rufiji River past lurking crocodiles. The world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue programme is run by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust out of Nairobi, Kenya. It opens daily for one hour for the public to experience the baby elephants having their midday mud bath and feed.

Safaris: This enthralling safari puts you in the heart of the action amongst the big cats of Africa. Visit the renowned Masai Mara National Reserve, famed for the wildebeest and zebra thundering across the landscape during the annual migrations in July and August. Benefitting from the knowledge and skill of your safari guide you will learn a lot about not only the wildlife but the way the Masai live in harmony with their surroundings.
