When to visit

Switzerland enjoys a moderate four-season climate with no extreme temperatures in the low-lying regions. Early summer is a pleasant time to visit, with June temperatures peaking around 25℃. In January and February, temperatures can approach freezing, according to altitude. The spring months of March and April are a lovely time to visit, as meadows bloom.

Experiences

Switzerland packs a big punch for its relatively small size amongst the European heavyweights. Lake Geneva, Western Europe’s largest, affords breathtaking alpine views and supports stylish lakeside cities such as Lugano, Montreux and Lausanne, offering local character and a rich cultural mix that stems from Switzerland’s unique position in the heart of Europe. Swiss ski resorts are world-renowned, including Zermatt, sitting in the shadow of the magnificent Matterhorn, and the old school glamour of Gstaad and St. Moritz. The charming Jungfrau region has more than 500 kilometres of hiking trails which pass crystal-blue lakes against alpine views of the Eiger, Jungfrau and Monch. Über-cool Zürich is one of Europe’s most fashionable destinations, with its riverside lounges, reborn industrial districts and array of cultural attractions such as art galleries and concert venues. Alpine tradition is strong here, reflected in the typical gastronomic fare of gooey cheese fondue, cured meats and velvety chocolate. However, Switzerland’s modern cities are known for excelling in more contemporary European cuisine.

Areas of Switzerland

Geneva: Lying at the border of Switzerland and France, Geneva combines Swiss efficiency with Gallic ‘joie de vivre’. With its temperate climate, lively cultural life and astoundingly lovely surroundings of snow–capped mountains, Alpine lakes, deep forests and enchanting countryside, Geneva is a delight. The Jet d’Eau spouting 140 metres into the air is one of the world’s tallest fountains and symbolises Geneva’s heritage as a leader in the field of hydraulic power.

Zurich: Cosmopolitan Zurich is Switzerland’s largest city and one of Europe’s most fashionable destinations. As a lifestyle capital on the water, Zurich offers visitors a unique mix of discovery, pleasure and nature fused with great shopping and a wide range of cultural delights including museums, art galleries, concerts, opera, ballet and musicals.
