When to visit
The tourist season runs from April to mid-October, with its peak in July and August when the weather is at its finest. Tulip fields near Amsterdam burst with colour from April to mid-May.
Experiences
Amsterdam is easily explored by renting a bike or hopping on and off a canal boat service to visit some of the city’s cultural landmarks, such as The Van Gogh Museum, Vondelpark or the Anne Frank House. The Rijksmuseum is the best place to enjoy works from renowned Dutch masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer and Van Gogh. A half-day Grand Holland Tour also samples the world-class architecture and urban design of Rotterdam, the pretty Golden Age charms and pottery of Delft, the stately Den Haag and the Madurodam amusement park. Between April and mid-May, swathes of colourful crocuses, daffodils, hyacinths and tulips in rainbows of colours can be enjoyed at the Keukenhof Gardens, the world’s largest bulb-flower garden.
