Introduction

With its unique Magyar language and culture, Hungary feels a little like Central Europe’s exotic cousin. Its pulsating capital city of Budapest is known to stay up late well into the night, while enchanting during the day with the kind of architectural riches that also define the country’s other urban centres.

Experiences

Hungary is undoubtedly beautiful, but unlike some of its immediate neighbours, its landscapes are pretty rather than spectacular, leaving its stunning architecture to capture the eye instead. Capital city Budapest’s must-see sights include Castle Hill, a kilometre-long limestone plateau towering 170 metres above the Danube. It contains some of the city’s most important medieval monuments and museums and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is also a 13th century Royal Palace, which currently houses the Hungarian National Gallery. The river Danube splits the city into two halves; Buda and Pest, and the connection is made between the two with the architectural splendour that is the Chain Bridge. The 19th century Central Market Hall supplies the city with everything from fresh food to souvenirs and embroidery across two floors. One of the city’s best views is from the high-set Citadella, a former Habsburg era fortress. Visegrád is a small town in the Danube Bend that can be reached on a day trip from Budapest. It is famed for its 13th century citadel, which offers spectacular views from high above a curve in the river, and a partially Renaissance palace, a seat of power during Visegrád’s 15th century golden age.

Areas of Austria

Austria welcomes you with grand imperial cities, scenic alpine adventures, and a wealth of culture. Begin in Vienna, where opulent palaces, world-class museums, and vibrant coffeehouses create a regal atmosphere. Explore Salzburg’s musical legacy and stunning baroque beauty, or hit the ski slopes of Innsbruck. The picturesque countryside reveals lush vineyards, storybook villages, and sparkling lakes, perfect for both relaxation and adventure, all set to the soundtrack of classical masterpieces.
