When to visit

If you want to avoid the holiday crowds, the best time to visit is May to July or September to October. Plan to visit between December and April if you hope to find snow in the Alps.

Experiences

France enchants visitors with an extraordinary tapestry of experiences, blending iconic landmarks, celebrated culture, spectacular natural beauty, and world-renowned cuisine.

Begin your journey in Paris, the “City of Light”, where the Eiffel Tower stands as a beacon above elegant boulevards, and world-class museums such as the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay house treasures of art and history. Stroll through historic neighbourhoods like Montmartre, home to the gleaming domes of Sacré-Cœur and atmospheric cobbled streets. Take in the grandeur of the Arc de Triomphe before unwinding with a café au lait at a pavement terrace.

Venture beyond the capital to experience the dazzling diversity of France. Marvel at the spectacular Palace of Versailles, with its opulent halls and manicured gardens, or explore the medieval citadel of Carcassonne and the enchanting island abbey of Mont Saint-Michel. Journey through the lavender fields of Provence, taste Champagne in Reims, and discover the storybook châteaux of the Loire Valley.

Embrace France’s natural wonders by hiking in the Alps or Pyrenees, kayaking beneath the ancient arches of the Pont du Gard, or relaxing on the sun-kissed beaches of the Côte d’Azur. The rugged cliffs of Normandy and scenic lakes of the Jura Mountains offer tranquil escapes for nature lovers.

Food and wine are at the heart of French culture. Savour Michelin-starred dining in Lyon, sample fresh seafood on the Brittany coast, and indulge in regional specialities such as fondue in the Alps or a rustic baguette from a village boulangerie. Each region brings its own culinary traditions, with a focus on local produce, artistry and conviviality—a way of life so treasured, French gastronomy is now designated UNESCO intangible heritage.
