Introduction
Austria has a deserved reputation as a foremost Alpine winter destination, but its magnificent mountains and lakes look just as good in their summer wear, and its elegant cities, with their roots in both the classical arts and the contemporary needs of its highly cultured population, are compelling draws in their own right.

When to visit
Austria enjoys a temperate climate with four distinct seasons, and can be split into two climatic regions. In the east of the country, low rainfall, hot summers and moderate winters dominate, while in the Central Eastern Alps, you should expect an Alpine climate of high rainfall, short summers and long winters. Austria’s ski season runs from December to March.
Experiences
Beautiful scenery and convivial coffee houses are both hallmarks of this landlocked Central European nation, where culture and adventure are consumed with equal enthusiasm. Vienna is a ‘grande dame’ of a city, replete with vast palaces, a cathedral, museums, galleries and concert halls; a partial legacy of spending six centuries under the rule of the culture-hungry Habsburg monarchy. Among its more famous attractions are the Lipizzaner horses, which ‘dance’ regularly at the Hofburg Palace. Gorgeous Salzburg attracts visitors not only to gaze upon its baroque domes and spires and its clifftop fortress, but also in homage to the two great cultural icons forever associated with it: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and The Sound of Music. Picture perfect Innsbruck, with its grand palace and baroque cathedral, is the gateway to the Tirol, Austria’s most mountainous province. Considered a ‘climatic spa’, Zell am See is a beautiful town on a lake surrounded by mountains. Families can enjoy swimming and boating on the lake in summer, and skating in the winter.

Areas of Austria
Austria charms with cultural sophistication, imperial grandeur, and natural beauty. Start in Vienna, where grand palaces and world-class museums await. Wander through the historic streets, discovering elegant cafés and impressive architecture. Winter sports enthusiasts will find adventure in Innsbruck, surrounded by majestic Alps, while the lakes and lush countryside of Carinthia are perfect for summer escapes. From concert halls alive with classical music to delectable local cuisine, Austria offers a rich tapestry of experiences, whatever the season.
