St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg, nicknamed the ‘Venice of the East’, is one of the most beautiful Russian cities with a wealth of imperial buildings and palaces, spacious parks and magnificent museums.

St. Petersburg is a Russian port city on the Baltic Sea. It was the imperial capital for 2 centuries, having been founded in 1703 by Peter the Great, subject of the city's iconic “Bronze Horseman” statue. It remains Russia's cultural center, with venues such as the Mariinsky Theatre hosting opera and ballet, and the State Russian Museum showcasing Russian art, from Orthodox icon paintings to Kandinsky works.

From late May to early July, the nights are bright in St. Petersburg, a curious phenomenon referred to as the ‘White Nights’. By day, locals revel in the heat and the outdoors; by night, there are festivals, concerts and partying to indulge in.
