Palermo

Palermo is the capital of the Autonomous Region of Sicily. It is an ancient city on the northwestern coast of the island. Palermo is rich in history, culture and gastronomy; it is the economic, cultural and tourist capital of the island and a busy port city. It is a good base for exploring places like Monreale, Ustica and Mondello. Walk through one of the lively markets like Ballaro, Capo or Vucciria. Here one can also visit at least 2 Unesco sites; the Arab-Norman style Cathedral and the Palazzo dei Normanni.

In between historical buildings one finds that street food venues are scattered all over the city, with many popular spots concentrated near the bustling Vucciria, Ballarò and Capo markets. But don't worry if you are wanting something more filling, Palermo has a large selection of restaurants to choose from, with most serving many options from fresh seafood to Pasta alla Norma.
