Brussels is a capital that delights in contradiction. A vibrant, multiethnic metropolis. Its mix of grand and quirky, old and new, rich and poor, together with some of the most beautiful buildings in Europe, makes it perfect for just wandering and in doing so, it’s hard not to fall in love.
Brussels is known as the capital of Art Nouveau architecture but other eras are also represented, and one can spend a whole day admiring the best examples of Brussels architecture throughout the ages.
The grand place was voted many times round as one of the most beautiful squares in Europe, it is definitely a reason to visit the EU capital. It is surrounded by exquisite buildings and decorated with an impressive flower carpet every two years in August, so if you happen to be in town during that period don’t miss it!
The air smells like waffles all around the city centre, so make sure to spot the little yellow waffle trucks, where they sell delicious Belgian waffles. They are so good that they will make you consider not just travelling to Brussels but maybe even moving permanently! But if waffles did not convince you, then we’re sure Belgian chocolate or frites will do the trick!
Brussels is an ideal place both for beer experts and travellers who’re curious to discover more about it. There’s a beer for every taste and countless bars around town where you can get a pint.
Brussels is an overall very lively city and if you intend on staying for a longer while we suggest you combine your visit with day trips to a few other destinations, like Bruges or Ghent.
