KAY DECLARED OVERALL WINNER OF THE ROCS GROUP CARNIVAL COMPETITION

Last February 2012, ROCS Group, together with the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, chose to promote a drawing competition on the Carnival Festival Programme. As was expected, the response was great. With over 100 respondents, this competition was aimed at enhancing the creativity of children – a fun experience for all those participating. The prize for the lucky winner is a complimentary voucher for 2 people inclusive of return flights to Paris and accommodation for 3 nights at a 4 star Disney property courtesy of ROCS travel. All the participants had to do was submit their best drawing of Mickey at Disneyland Paris holding the ROCS Disney Specialists logo. The deadline for submissions was the 5th March 2012. On the 22nd April, the 20 most ‘liked’ facebook images were short listed and presented to the ROCS group staff who voted for the final winning drawing. It was a very difficult decision, but a winner had to be chosen. The final decision was left to an expert art critic appointed by the MCCA.

Indeed, the winning drawing for this competition is the lucky Kay Darmanin Farrell, 9 years of age, who submitted her drawing and was voted as one of the finalists. Her drawing captured the attention of art critic Lisa Gwen, who was asked to choose the final winner. Obviously, a number of factors were taken into consideration amongst which the media acknowledged the ages of the children participating and the creativity involved, the medium and colours used as well as some personal touches, such as the way the ROCS logo is interpreted.

Colin Aquilina, Head Business Development of ROCS group stated “I was impressed with the amount of feedback generated by this competition. All the drawings are wonderful and I can say for a fact that it was a tough challenge choosing one winning drawing. Nevertheless, the important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle and I urge all participants to never give up on what they desire to achieve. Don’t worry, there are many more competitions to come!”

If however you’re not the fortunate winner of this competition, rest assured that ROCS travel offers the best prices on the market. Packages start from €289 only. Such a price is inclusive of direct return flights with Air Malta, 2 nights’ accommodation at the 4 star Hotel ‘Magic Circus’ on a bed and breakfast basis, as well as all taxes and charges. The 4 star Magic Circus Hotel is only 10 minutes away from the amusement parks and extremely close to Val d’Europe, a fantastic place to shop and relax!

Day 7 – Melbourne – Canberra.
Depart Melbourne and transfer to Canberra – Australia’s Capital City. We check into our hotel The 4* Rydges Capital Hill

Day 8 – Canberra – Sydney.
There is plenty to see and do in Canberra. The most well known are Parliament House, Old Parliament House, The Aboriginal Tent Embassy, The Australian War Memorial and Lake Burley . Another place you can visit is the attractive Government House and the gardens. Depart Canberra and proceed to Sydney. We check in to our hotel The 4 Star Vibe Hotel

Day 9 – Sydney.
We then return to King Street Wharf to board the cruise vessel for a luncheon on the overwhelming Sydney Harbour.

Day 10 – Sydney.
Right in the heart of Sydney lies the waterside visitors’ mecca that is Darling Harbour. It’s close enough to walk to from the central business district — you can see the city skyline up close from the Harbourside Shopping Centre. Darling Harbour is one of Sydney’s most popular recreation spots with over 1.3 million people visiting the sunny foreshore precinct each year. The area has a colourful history playing an integral role in Sydney’s early market days.

Day 11 – Sydney – Manly.
Visit Circular Quay which is the hub of Sydney Harbour, situated at a small inlet called Sydney Cove, the founding site for Sydney and Australia. It is a stepping-off point for most attractions based around the harbour and an exciting place to be on a warm summer’s day. The quay is a vibrant, bustling place with ferries leaving every few minutes to different parts of the harbour, including Manly, where we will visit today. Manly has well been considered Australia’s favourite seaside resort; on the water’s edge, a destination for all seasons and all ages. It’s an attraction famous for its breathtaking natural beauty, scenic walkways alongside harbour and ocean beaches and cultural events.

Day 12 – Sydney.
Sydney’s market scene provides shoppers with an earthy alternative to the more glitzy retail outlets. If you get the weather right, then browsing through all the little stalls and knick knacks is a very pleasant way to spend your time, you never know, you might even buy something. Chinatown is a colourful mixture of asian culture, shopping and cuisine. The area’s distinctly oriental architecture, street lanterns and archways confirm it asa showpiece for Australian Chinese culture.

Day 13 – Sydney – Blue Mountains.

Day 16 – Surfers Paradise.
Surfers Paradise (previously known as the Paradise Centre) where you will discover a world of shopping, dining, fun, laughter and entertainment right in the heart of Surfers Paradise.

Sea World Gold Coast is one of the largest and nicest Sea World Parks internationally. We will have the opportunity to see sharks, whales and the best of all the chance to swim with the dolphins. The day is full of first class shows, parades and much more, such as helicopter rides over the impressive coast. Today we can also swim in one of the many pools here plus try out one of the daring slides that Sea World Gold Coast offers. A day you will remember forever.

Day 18 – Australia Fair.
Australia Fair is a fairly old shopping centre by Gold Coast standards, but is doing well for it’s 20th year of business. It has all the shops you’d expect in a big centre.

Day 19 – Stradbroke Island.
Just a short boat cruise from Surfers Paradise, Stradbroke Island offers a unique style of Gold Coast holiday. Relax amongst the natural beauty of the bush and escape the stresses of city life just minutes away from the heart of Australia’s premier holiday destination! Stradbroke Island which is covered by tropical bushland offers a contrast between the calm, protected waters of the western beaches, and the sand dunes and surf of the eastern beaches. Why not take in one of the many island bushwalks or sit back, relax and soak up the sun.

After assignment of rooms we meet again so as to embark on our first very experience of Johannesburg. We will start our tour with a visit to the Apartheid Museum. This visit will immediately kick start our experience and give us a good introduction about the rise and fall of apartheid, the racially prejudiced system that blighted much of its progress and the triumph of reason which crowned half a century of struggle.
Day 3: Johannesburg to Mpumalanga, South Africa + Kruger Gate

Stand on the only road that carries the honour of two of the recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize. Drop in at NELSON MANDELA’S home – one of the most visited sights in the country, being the tiny, four-roomed “matchbox” house where the young lawyer lived with his wife and small children during the 1950’s. We continue to the REGINA MUNDI CHURCH with it’s black Madonna, for a guided tour. Regina Mundi, one of 18 Catholic churches in Soweto, is another one of the township’s “must see” sites. Built in 1962, this is the largest Catholic church in South Africa.
Departing from Johannesburg we head east towards Mpumalanga. A
landscape characterised by mountains, panoramic passes, valleys, rivers, waterfalls and forests Arrival to our hotel The 4* PH Kruger Gate Hotel for dinner & overnight.

This tiny kingdom is well-known for its pastoral and peaceful countryside. Witness a Swazi cultural experience before visiting the Swaziland National Museum. We continue through the capital city, Mbabane, known for its vibrant markets packed with woven baskets, beadwork and carvings. Spend the night in the beautiful 5* Royal Swazi Spa.

Day 6: St Lucia, South Africa
Lake St Lucia comprises the largest estuarine system on the African continent and was declared a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO on 1 Dec 1999. It is also of regional importance for duck and other water bird populations which are able to survive here when there are severe droughts elsewhere in Southern Africa. In the evening we will visit a typical town surrounded by very good restaurants at very affordable prices.

Day 8: Overland to Durban via Shakaland
Back on terra firma, we wind along the legendary Chapman’s Peak Drive, hugging the cliffs and relishing the breathtaking ocean views, before arriving at our lunch spot of choice (own account): the wild and beautiful Cape of Good Hope Section of the Table Mountain National Park, an integral part of the worldrenowned Cape Floral Kingdom. We meander back along the coast towards the City, visiting the historic naval port of Simon’s Town and the endearing penguin colony at Boulder’s Beach.
Day 20 Full day coach & guide for Winelands tour & Robben Island
A superb day dedicated to celebrating the glorious grape, the exceptional winelands region, and the heavenly scenery…like the breathtaking views from the historical Taal Monument near Paarl. We visit the exquisite little town of Franschhoek, pass by the impressive Huguenot Monument, and in a town with a reputation for gourmet fare, where else could we choose to enjoy lunch (for own account). We wind our way to the heady heights of the Helshoogte Mountain Pass to meet the charming university town of Stellenbosch on the other side. We’ve set aside ample time to stroll through this little town, absorbing the quaintness, and sneaking into the odd shop or two! A trip to the winelands isn’t complete without a wine tasting, so we organized two at different wine estates. And of course, you’ll be able to purchase your favourite wine to take back home. In the afternoon we will head to Robben via the Waterfront and boarding a catamaran which will take us to experience the Apartheid Period in the very place where nelson Mandela was kept prisoner for more than 25 years. An unforgettable and unique experience.
